The Faculty of Computer Science, Institute of Software and Multimedia Technology and the
German Aerospace Center (DLR) are seeking to fill at the earliest possible date the position of a


Chair (W3) of
Software Engineering for Product Virtualization


combined with the position of the Director of the DLR Institute of Software Methods for Product Virtualization
in a joint appointment procedure. The successful candidate will be appointed professor at TU
Dresden and will be granted leave of absence for the purpose of heading the DLR Institute in
Dresden.


The future holder of this position is expected to fulfill teaching duties of 2 SWS (weekly lecturing
hours per semester) in the study programs of the Faculty of Computer Science, in particular, in
the international master program „Computational Modeling and Simulation“.The skills for
conducting lectures in the English language arerequired. The duties include participation in
academic selfadministration.


The focus of research of the DLR Institute is strategic research and development of software
platforms as a basis for the competence in virtual system engineering of the German aerospace
research. The institute will perform basic research as well as applied research mainly for
aerospace, but also support the DLR institutes focusing on aerospace, transport, and energy. At
the same time, a close research cooperation with TU Dresden will be pursued.
This position requires a person with a sound knowledge of methodological foundations as well as
specific application areas in software engineering and modeling of the life cycle of virtual
products, especially with respect to data-intensive systems on massively parallel and
heterogeneous HPC architectures. Applicants should have an excellent record of internationally
renowned academic achievements in – preferably – several of the following focus areas:


• Foundations and application of the use of high-fidelity simulation methods in all
phases of a production cycle – in particular in the application area of aerospace.


• Software and systems engineering for design, test, and operation of virtual products
using methods for virtual and incremental certification.


• Software and systems engineering for high-scaling multi-domain simulation
frameworks, simulation languages, and workflow development environments for
virtual products.


• Innovative programming concepts like domain-specific languages or equation-based
simulation languages, component models, and model-driven software development.


• Data extraction and analysis of design and runtime data of virtual products.


• Resilient and secure software infrastructures, especially for virtual products.


Excellent international publications, international cooperation projects and collaboration with
industry are of particular importance. Perennial experience in heading large research groups or
institutions, competencies in successful application for third-party funds, experience in
developing regional, national, and international interdisciplinary cooperation projects as well as
heading and conducting interdisciplinary projects and working groups are necessary
prerequisites. Candidates are expected to have excellent communication, motivation and team
skills. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the
Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Higher Education Act of
the Free State of Saxony – SächsHSFG). A Habilitation or equivalent qualifications are a
prerequisite.
