The Faculty of Science, Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science, is looking for candidates for Assistant/Associate professor(s) in Core Computer Science  and Assistant/Associate professor(s) in Artificial Intelligence, Imaging, Deep Learning (0.8-1.0 FTE)

 

The rapid evolution and expansion of Computer Science and the increasing integration of computing with other disciplines creates new challenges on developing and understanding modern computing systems. Through these positions, we aim to strengthen the research and education on Foundation of Computing and Systems at our Institute. Areas of interest include (1) Algorithms, Networks, Concurrency, Cyber-Physical Systems, Embedded System, Formal Methods, High Performance Computing, Testing and Verification, Theory and (2) Artificial Intelligence, Imaging, and Deep Learning. We value original research and original ideas for your own research direction within these or other core areas of Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence.

  • Conducting independent research in your field, establishing an own research group,

  • Teaching suitable BSc and MSc courses and supervising BSc, MSc, and PhD students,

  • Securing external funding for research,

  • Contribution to organizational activities of the Institute.

 

Selection criteria

  • PhD degree in Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence or a closely related field;

  • Several years of experience at the postdoctoral level in this field;

  • Strong publication record and experience in raising research funds;

  • Proven track record in teaching;

  • Energetic ‘out-of-the-box’ thinker with a clear view on a challenging research program;

  • Team spirit/collaboration attitude strongly preferred.

The research carried out at the Faculty of Science is diverse, ranging from artificial intelligence, computer science, mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry and bio-pharmaceutical sciences to biology and environmental sciences. The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) is the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Institute of the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. We offer courses at the Bachelor and Master of Science level in the core areas of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, and Data Science, and in the interdisciplinary areas of ICT in Business, Media Technology and Creative science, and Bioinformatics. Terms and conditions

We offer a 5-year fixed term position, with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding and performance. Salary ranges from €3,545 to €5,513 gross per month for a full-time position as assistant professor (pay scale 11 or 12 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). The appointments will be at the assistant professor level (UD), although your record may merit an associate professor appointment (UHD), which will then duly be considered.

 

Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3 %), training and career development and sabbatical leave. Our individual choices model gives you some freedom to assemble your own set of terms and conditions. For international spouses we have set up a dual career programme. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
