ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN INTEGRATED ENERGY SYSTEM AND MICROGRIDS (2019-224-02178)

 

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology a position as Associate Professor in Integrated Energy Systems and Microgrids is open for appointment from June 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics and Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 300 employees – out of them are more than 100 Ph.D. students. The laboratory facilities are world-class and the researches carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research programs Microgrid and Intelligent Energy Systems and Active Networks and will be positioned to the section for Power Electronic Systems.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The main research area will be within the energy systems design, operation, and analysis. This includes different research lines ranging from building-level energy management systems and optimization to operational planning of larger energy systems and microgrids. Secondary research areas will be analysis of energy scenarios and policies such as mathematical modeling, risk and uncertainty modeling and management. Special attention is given to international project works on integrated energy systems (such as joint district heating/cooling and electricity networks) as a principal investigator. Also, project experience regarding innovative representation of energy systems such as Energy Internet and the use of IT Infrastructures for control, optimization and management in energy systems is an advantage. Within this position, it is also important to exhibit ability to professional international relations, thus demonstration of engagement with relevant CIGRE and IEEE Technical Working Groups will be considered by the evaluation committee. 


 
The successful candidate will be required to conduct teaching activities at all levels in energy engineering, including Master and PhD courses. Thus, it will be an advantage that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL), which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy. The candidate must also fulfill the following requirement:

•    Research, including publication of results and supervision of research students
•    Making research funding applications and management of successful projects at national/international level
•    Leverage of reputation, knowledge and experience to strengthen our relationship with private/public energy sector

Qualification requirements

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
