The Project

This aim of this project is develop a state-of-the-art automated system integration model based on syntactic and semantic parsing of Application Programming Interfaces. Many organisations use different applications for different business activities e.g. SalesForce for CRM, Sage for accounting and Shopify for e-commerce. Integrating these applications is complex, labour intensive and time consuming because it requires engineers to understand different API formats, structures and documentation. However, a possible automated solution lies in exploiting increasingly sophisticated and widely available natural language processing (NLP) methods and tools. The successful candidate will select a set of NLP methods and tools to construct a lexicon and thesaurus to build an automated API mapping and integration tool. It is expected that this project will generate high-quality publishable outputs and training materials.

The Role

Responsibilities for the role:

Undertake the work plan as detailed in the KTP Proposal and as agreed by line managers
Develop a data processing pipeline which uses data from parsing applications' APIs and sometimes scraping websites
Develop models for mapping any two given applications based on data from the above pipeline
Test the models extensively and document every stage of the process
Travel to, participate in and contribute to academic and industrial conferences and exhibitions.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a B.Sc. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Physics, Statistics, Engineering or equivalent relevant degree.

They should also have:

Experience of full software development lifecycle including a Python stack
Knowledge of Web Services
Experience in software development incorporating web and cloud based technologies.
Proficiency with code versioning tools and continuous integration
The post also includes a generous development budget for training, travel, conference attendance and equipment.
