Senior Post Doctoral Researcher University of College Cork School of Computer Science and IT

Medical devices have evolved from being stand-alone hardware-focused components of the clinical care process to include networked, wirelessly-reprogrammable implantable devices, or networked software applications. The increased focus on software-based/networked medical devices has altered the means of safety verification, and introduced novel security/privacy vulnerabilities. Verifying the safety, security and privacy of modern medical devices requires a radically new approach that directly addresses safety of networked systems, and introduces novel protocols for guaranteeing the security and privacy of all devices in the network. This work will provide a novel framework for ensuring security/privacy for networked medical devices and/or software, in that we will verify safety and security/privacy properties at the same time. Further, this will be done using a lightweight interface protocol, such that a device cannot be added to a system unless the protocol is satisfied (i.e., the device is compliant with regulatory requirements). The Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher will work under the supervision of Prof. Gregory Provan (UCC) in the area of Medical Devices software. This project will bring together necessary expertise from embedded systems, formal methods, security/privacy. Applicants with primary expertise in any of these areas will be considered.
The Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher will be expected to make significant contributions to the direction and progress of the project in addition to working closely with the other team members and Prof. Provan, the project Principal Investigator. He/she will collaborate with LERO researchers in UCC and University of Limerick. Applicants are invited from those with a PhD qualification and publications in a directly relevant area. Post Duration: 24 months Salary: €45,540 - €48,205 p.a. (IUA Salary Scale) Project: LERO HOLISTICS project: DTIF project with Enterprise Ireland Senior Post–Doctoral Researcher This is an advanced research training role, building on their prior experience as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in UCC or elsewhere, where you will conduct a specified programme of research and research training under the guidance of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to deliver research results and objectives, develop new or advanced research skills and competencies, the successful development of funding proposals and to interact in the supervision and mentorship of graduate students, in conjunction with an academic supervisor. The Post-Doctoral/Senior Post-Doctoral phase has an expected duration up to a maximum of 6 years, subject to the term of the project, on a full-time or part-time basis. Movement to the grade of Senior Post-Doctoral researcher in the University will be by competing for an advertised post. External appointments made directly to Senior Post-Doctoral research positions must have previous post-doctoral experience of at least 3 years.
