Professorship (W3) in Statistics
Job description:
We seek an internationally recognized outstanding scientist in the area of mathematical statistics. Possible research areas include statistical methods for high dimensional and/or big data, mathematical-statistical foundations of machine learning, statistics of complex networks or spatial statistics. The new research group is expected to contribute to the research focus ‘Stochastic Models’ within the KIT Department of Mathematics and to bridge the gap between theory and applications, by collaborating with applied partners (e.g. in the natural sciences, engineering, economics, computer science) at KIT. As a Research University in the Helmholtz Association, KIT offers unique collaborative opportunities, facilitated by the newly founded KIT-Center MathSEE (Mathematics in Sciences, Engineering and Economics) and by broad interdisciplinary research communities.
The successful candidate will take part in teaching the broad spectrum of courses in probability and statistics at the Institute of Stochastics. In particular, she or he will assume responsibility for the statistics education of mathematics students and of students in other departments.
The appointed professor will take part in the collegial governance of the Institute of Stochastics and the academic self-governance of the KIT Department of Mathematics. She or he is expected to teach (and contribute to governance) in German within a reasonable amount of time.
