Faculty Positions at the rank of Associate and Assistant Professor in machine learning and data science

 

The Group of Machine Learning and Data Science (part of Embodied Systems for Robotics and Learning) at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for Faculty positions at the rank of Associate (permanent) and Assistant (3-year period) Professor. The positions are available starting January 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Within the general field of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Applied Mathematics and Physics, we seek applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following strategic research areas:

  1. Biomedical Engineering 

  2. Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

  3. Bio-Statistics

  4. Computational Biomedicine

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in ECE, Applied Mathematics or Physics, or a related field, at the time of the appointment. 

Successful candidates will be expected to initiate and lead an outstanding, independent and externally funded research program of international caliber, and to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research, evidenced primarily by publications in leading journals or conferences in the field, and secured external funding. Excellence will be evaluated commensurately with the level of the position applied for (assistant or associate professor).

Candidates are also expected to lead research projects with industry, such as private sector active in the fields of Robotics and Renewable Energy, and various departments at Odense University Hospital (OUH).    

Candidates are expected to submit only the 3 most important publications and specify for which position level, Assistant or Associate Prof, they apply for.

Requirements for the position
Employment as an associate and assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
 
Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an expert panel.
 
As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.

Conditions of employment
The successful applicant(s) will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

Employment as an Associate Professor is a permanent position.

Employment as Assistant Professor is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.
