Description

The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Teaching (Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (LPSOE)), comparable to a tenure-track assistant professor appointment. Professor of Teaching faculty are Academic Senate faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on undergraduate education and scholarly analysis/improvement of teaching methods. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching both lower and upper division undergraduate Agricultural Sensing and Data Science lecture and laboratory courses (up to six courses per year) including AET 60 (Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Systems for Agriculture and Environmental Science), AET 100 (Smart Control Systems for Agricultural and Environmental Technologies), ABT/AET 121 (Controlled Environments), ABT/AET 181N (Concepts and Methods in Geographic Information Systems), ABT/AET 182 (Environmental Analysis Using GIS) and AET 180 (Data Analytics for Agricultural and Environmental Technologies) along with others in the Applied Biological Systems Technology, Biological Systems Engineering, and Agricultural and Environmental Technology (proposed) undergraduate and graduate programs. They will also be expected to play a leadership role in the scholarship of teaching and learning, working with other faculty to develop, implement and assess new pedagogical initiatives. Qualified applicants must have a PhD in Engineering or a BS in Engineering with a PhD in a scientific field, preferably with postgraduate experience. Other preferred qualifications include documented success in some or all of the following areas as related to Agricultural Sensing and Data Science: teaching large undergraduate classes, use of evidence based teaching practices, use of modern instructional technology including virtual models, ability to identify and develop effective teaching strategies for diverse student populations, conducting Agricultural Sensing and Data Science education research, especially as related to spatiotemporal technologies, as consistent with a successful discipline-based education research program. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
