The Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of
Research Professor (W2/Associate Level) of
Data Science and Machine Learning
The position is due to commence on September 1, 2020.
This fixed-term position is for six years according to § 50 (2) (5) of the Baden-Württemberg state law.
The professorship is part of the new Cluster of Excellence “Machine Learning: New Perspectives for Science“. We are looking for outstanding candidates who are highly interested in applying machine learning and data science methods in a wide range of scientific disciplines.
We expect the candidate to have expertise in at least one of the following fields of research:
- Machine learning for analysing scientific data (e.g. unsupervised learning, representation learning, etc.)
- Inference for complex scientific models
- Integration of machine learning into the scientific process
- Computational statistics
- Statistical visualization of scientific data
- Interpretability of machine learning algorithms
The successful candidate will actively contribute to the Cluster of Excellence by collaborating on research projects at the intersection between machine learning, data science and a scientific discipline, and by contributing to the organizational tasks of the cluster. The position comes with a research funding package, the opportunity to teach, and is particularly well suited for scientists at an early stage of their career.
Required qualifications include a doctorate and postdoctoral qualifications equivalent to the requirements for tenure.
