Software Engineer for Team Earth Informatics

We are looking for

Team Earth Informatics is looking for an enthusiastic software engineer to enforce the software development capacity in the team. In this position you will participate in research projects with a strong ICT component. You work together with other software developers in our team and other teams. You will also collaborate with researchers within the WUR but also from other organisations, national and international. Supporting our broad and interdisciplinary research, you will work on a diversity of topics in the domain of agri-food and environment.

Your tasks will cover all aspects of software engineering, focussing on implementation, but also including design, testing and documentation. The team Earth Informatics prefers agile methodologies for software development. Our ICT work is diverse, and projects and development teams are usually small or medium size. This means we expect you to be flexible, able to manage more than one project at the same time and able and willing to master more than just one development environment and where required both back- and frontend. You will have the chance to join state-of-art projects, following the newest developments in software engineering, like big data technologies, functional programming (languages), machine learning etc.

We ask

  • university of applied science degree, MSc degree in informatics or comparable;
  • at least 1 – 3 years working experience in software development;
  • experience in Java, java based web development tools;
  • experience with Agile methodologies, a Scrum master certification is a pro;
  • knowledge of database systems, relational and NOSQL;
  • experience and/or interested in one or more of the following is a pro: AI and machine/deep learning, distributed, cloud computing, Linked Data / SPARQL, Scala
  • proficiency in English;
  • team player but also able to work independently and take responsibility;
  • able to perform in a challenging and dynamic environment.

We offer

A challenging position for at least 32 hours a week. This is a permanent position, starting with a temporary contract. Extension of that contract depends on proven suitability and the scope of the order portfolio.
The salary is between 2722,- and 5057,- euro gross per month, depending on experience (scale 10-11) on a full-time basis (38 hours).
