PhD Position in Mathematical Analysis Catholic University of Department of Mathematics

 
The analysis section of the KU Leuven department of mathematics consists of two research groups, one in classical analysis and one in functional analysis. The classical analysis group is led by profs. Arno Kuijlaars and Walter Van Assche. The group consists of several PhD students and postdocs. We organize regular seminars, advanced mini-courses, etc. We have numerous international collaborations. We are part of the joint Methusalem research project in pure mathematics, so that all researchers are exposed to a broad spectrum of mathematical research.

Project

We are looking for a PhD student doing research in classical analysis under the supervision of prof. Arno Kuijlaars or prof. Walter Van Assche. The possible research topics focus on random matrices, random tilings, orthogonal polynomials, special functions, and their asymptotic analysis.

Profile

Master degree in Mathematics, or equivalent, with a strong interest in research, as demonstrated by your master thesis. Master students who will obtain their master degree before the fall of 2020 can apply. You will have a limited amount of teaching duties. Therefore candidates should be fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch or a commitment to learn Dutch during the first year of your PhD is a plus.

Offer

We offer a four year PhD fellowship with a competitive stipend, a budget for conference participation and short research stays in other institutions, health insurance and social benefits for the PhD student and her/his accompanying partner and/or children.
