PhD Position in Network Dynamics VU University of Amsterdam Department of Mathematics
Location: AMSTERDAM FTE: 0.8 - 1 Job descriptionThe Department of Mathematics of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam welcomes applications for a fully-funded, 4-year PhD position in Network Dynamics. In this project you will work on the dynamics of adaptive and state-dependent networks under the supervision of Christian Bick. The connectivity of many real-world network dynamical systems is not necessarily fixed but connections change depending on the network state—for example, connections in networks of neurons can adapt though plasticity. This project seeks insights into the interplay between network dynamics and the evolution of the underlying network itself. The successful candidate will be embedded into the Dynamical Systems group of the Department of Mathematics at VU Amsterdam. The group is internationally leading in the field of nonlinear dynamics and differential equations with a strong interest both in fundamental mathematics and concrete applications. In addition, the group has many national and international connections: As part of the project, there may be an opportunity to engage with Christian Bick’s collaborators at the Technical University of Munich (Germany) and the University of Exeter (UK). The preferred starting date is 1 October 2020 or a mutually agreed date thereafter. Your duties
