The successful candidate will be deeply involved in an effort to develop a software solution to partition a given 3D object into parts for 3D printing and then assemble the printed parts together to reconstruct the object. This research is funded by National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC).

 

Responsibilities/expectations will include:

  • Expected to work independently in an interdisciplinary team, collaborate and be a pro-active team player
  • Developing the program codes and software tools for partitioning computer-aided design (CAD) models.
  • Support principal investigator/co-principal investigator in the development of new computer-aided design (CAD), engineering (CAE), and manufacturing (CAM) software applications and design workflows
  • Curate website layouts and complex interactive website features while using standard HTML/CSS practices, while incorporating data from back-end databases and services
  • Create and maintain workflows with project team
  • Develop or validate testing schedules, addressing all browsers and devices to ensure various computers can access content
  • Ensure software stability via regression, support quality assurance, and perform unit and user-acceptance testing to identify bugs and ensure production operations run successfully
  • Perform UI designs and coding, creating reusable objects and templates, wireframes for web page, manage maintenance, updates, expansions, and scaling.

 

Required/Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computational, mechanical engineering, or a related field
  • Advanced technical proficiency in Windows/Linux (should be comfortable using command line shell environment) and programming in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Javascript, LISP, C/C++)
  • Experience in professional software and application development will be a bonus
  • Experience in computer graphics, geometric processing, computational design and digital fabrication, and engineering software will be an advantage (e.g., MATLAB, VTK/ParaView, Rhino, Solidworks, Abaqus, ANSYS, 3DS Max, Maya etc.).
  • Preferably with experience in customization, workflows and website integration and develop the web and enhance it.
  • Preferably with experience working with CSS, JQuery, HTML, Web Programming Skills, E-Commerce, Web User Interface Design (UI), Web Services, Multimedia Content Development, API’s, Software as a Service (SaaS), if not, the candidate must be willing to pick up these skillsets during the initial phase of the project.
