“CLICCS - Climate, Climatic Change, And Society”

The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act
(Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 1. November 2019.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor
contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed until 31. December
2025. The position calls for 39 hours per week.


Responsibilities:
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also
pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.


Specific Duties:
The objective of this postdoctoral position is to perform research on novel data analysis, feature
extraction, and visualization techniques for application in the climate sciences. We envision, for
example, visual analysis methods for large datasets of high spatio-temporal resolution for
integration into current high-performance computing environments. You will work at the
intersection of computer science and climate sciences in an interdisciplinary environment and
closely collaborate with CLICCS project partners to facilitate future climate research. At the
Regional Computing Centre, you will be part of a newly established visualization team, tightly
integrated into the local scientific environment including both computer and climate sciences.


Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. Preferably in computer science,
meteorology, oceanography, applied mathematics, physics, or related fields.

In addition, we are looking for the following skills:
- Profound programming skills
- Profound interest in conducting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of computer
sciences and climate sciences
- Evidence of developing a track record of internatinally recognized research as documented by
publications in peer reviewed international journals, commensurate with the candidate's career
state
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Beneficial will be knowledge and experience in one or more of the following topics: highperformance computing, parallel programming, graphics programming, visualization
techniques, numerical earth system models, data mining techniques.
