Senior Manager IT Systems McGill University Faculty of Computer Science Canada

The Faculty of Science is embarking on an innovative new initiative to realign our IT Services and the Senior Manager (SM), IT Systems for the Faculty of Science, in collaboration with the Faculty Advisory Committee and Senior Administration, will play an integral role in defining and managing the Faculty's new IT structure. The SM will establish and improve IT policies and procedures to ensure they reflect best practices. The SM will also manage and develop a team of IT professionals and technicians who provide ongoing technical support to a diverse range of teaching, research and administrative activities across the Faculty of Science's departments and units.

Primary Responsibilities:
Participate in establishing the strategic development of IT systems for the Faculty of Science with a primary focus on supporting teaching, research and administrative activities.
Serve as a leading change agent in developing and maintaining a new IT services model for the Faculty.
Provide senior professional expertise to the Faculty of Science community and high-level information systems support and services that enhances the Faculty's existing IT systems. Identify risks associated with services development activities by proactively evaluating potential impact to project and propose appropriate actions to leverage or mitigate risk opportunities.
Develop and create a sustainable, high quality IT Services organizational structure that ensures continuous IT Services to our clients (specifically, academics and students in teaching labs, administrators, etc.).
Manage workload of the Faculty of Science IT Services team to prioritize and troubleshoot items, and continuously look for ways to improve IT technologies efficiency and effectiveness. Establish metrics, unit goals and objectives/ KPIs in consultation with the Faculty Advisory Committee and Senior Administration. Ensure KPIs are effectively communicated and measured. Ensure high-quality, client-focused services related to helpdesk services and ongoing client support.
Responsible for the direct supervision, professional development and performance management of all Faculty of Science IT staff. This includes setting team goals and objectives, implementation of team-building strategies, evaluating individual and team productivity, recognizing and rewarding staff achievement, and performance improvement plans if needed.
Manage the workload of IT staff (delegate tasks, ensure efficiency, balance of work, continuity, priorities, etc.). to attain organizational effectiveness. Identifies and resolves issues and risks.
Define and implement standard operating procedures regarding IT service delivery for all faculty services – teaching, research and administrative support.
Provides senior professional expertise in the examination and definition of objectives for existing or future educational technology solutions and contributes to the selection of appropriate solutions.
Ensures the security of all IT infrastructures. Identifies, recommends and oversees new tools to improve infrastructure's security, stability and performance
Minimum Education & Experience:
Undergraduate degree

Five (5) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Technical Knowledge & Skills required: Windows servers; Linux/ Unix servers/ operating systems; Windows and Mac - Desktops and Laptops; Virtualization; Desktop Images; GIS Other Skills & Abilities required: Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams. Excellent communication, writing, documentation and planning skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work well with multiple, cross-functional teams. Good team player with a strong focus on delivering results to meet the business needs. Ability to function with an exceptional level of accuracy, strategic judgment and efficiency. Ability to troubleshoot problems, recommend solutions and improvements. Quality oriented and able to meet deadlines, aptitude for clear and concise thinking, flexible and able to adapt to change. High-level knowledge and proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, resource management practices, and change management techniques. Demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders and prioritize a wide range of responsibilities. Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken.
