The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Senior Research Fellow to participate in an exciting new European H2020 project developing the next generation of decarbonized heavy duty engines for transport applications. The work will consider future low carbon fuels, specifically comparing biogas, ammonia and hydrogen when operating in advanced combustion modes such as dual fuel and jet ignition as part of a hybrid powertrain.

As an enthusiastic and experienced post-doctorate, this is an exciting opportunity for you to help manage and deliver high impact collaborative research covering several technical themes. Fully supported by the university, you will be instrumental in delivering a high profile project on time and within budget.

A key aspect of your role will be to undertake both experimental and simulation based fundamental engine research and to apply this within a hybrid virtual demonstrator vehicle. A good understanding of modern hybrid vehicle operation and performance is therefore highly desirable.

You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in an appropriate field (i.e. automotive powertrain engineering and ideally have knowledge or experience of heavy duty dual fuel or jet ignition combustion. You should have good knowledge from your work in a similar or related role within an industrial, scientific or research environment.

As a people-orientated individual, you will have the ability to influence and engage collaboratively between the partners and the University of Nottingham. As a proactive person, you will have the enthusiasm and motivation to organise your own time effectively and have a flexible approach to prioritising tasks and work.

Throughout the project you will be given the support and mentoring you need to further an academic career, including supervision of PhDs, publication and dissemination activities.

The University of Nottingham is committed to providing competitive employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a University employee, you will have access to the resources of the university as well as a range of benefits and rewards, including staff discounts and travel schemes and a highly attractive pension scheme.

This is a full time, fixed term post until 31 January 2024. Job share arrangements may be considered.
