Virtual reality (VR) programmer

 

Grade 8: £41526-£45361 per annum

 

Applications are invited for a Virtual reality (VR) programmer to work on a project at the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) research team

 

The post is full time and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.

 

The post is for a fixed term (funded for 2 years).

 

You will be responsible for the programming of the VR scenarios for a new starting project. You will work together with the research team during the iterative design process of the scenarios and provide your expertise in software engineering. You will optimise the VR applications and ensure they run smooth in the desired setup. You will be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining the applications, and have a key role in testing and bug tracking the applications. You will also responsible for the definition of the software development standards for this project and future ones, including the setup of a software versioning control repository.

 

You will contribute to the preparation of manuals and training of clinical psychologists to use the VR equipment and our VR applications. You will also contribute to the creation of multimedia content for the public dissemination of our research. You will also contribute to the maintenance of our VR equipment and the VR labs. You will be encouraged to collaborate in other on-going research projects and participate with new ideas for future projects.

 

You will have a MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar university degree, with 3+ years of experience in the development of VR applications with game engines. You will be a goal-oriented and self-motivated person to deliver top grade experiences that will be part of the next generation of mental health therapies in VR.

You will have ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. You will have demonstrable computer programming skills (C#, C++, Python) and a strong knowledge in object-oriented programming and the concepts of reusability and scalability. Experience working with project management software (Jira or similar), especially in task management and bug tracking, and a clear understanding of the software development cycle.  You will have experience in deployment to multiple platforms (Windows, Android), experience with profiling tools and unit test frameworks. A strong knowledge in versioning control systems (Git, SVN) and experience in VR hardware setup (HTC Vive PRO, Oculus Quest) will also be required.
