The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. Göttingen, “City of Science”, located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.

The development of statistical methods is envisaged above all in the field of genomewide association or longitudinal studies. A focus lies on kernel procedures or other procedures in the combined analysis of genes, biological pathways including network structures, as well as gene-gene and gene-environment interactions. We conduct genetic epidemiological studies for example on lung cancer within the framework of the International Lung Cancer Consortium and the OncoArray Network, on the longitudinal course of psychoses in the PsyCourse Network, as well as on haematopoietic stem cell therapy in cooperation with international partners.

We teach in the degree courses of human medicine, molecular medicine, and applied statistics. Candidates will be expected to be able to participate in teaching in German as well.

Where applicable, the successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to complete a doctorate or postdoctoral “habilitation” with structured tuition in statistics. The conditions of acceptance onto the doctorate degree programme “human sciences in medicine” are to be adhered to where applicable.

Candidates are required to have completed a university degree in statistics, mathematics, informatics, physics, chemistry, or medicine with a sound education in statistics on a level equivalent to the teaching of statistics offered to degree students in mathematics, as well as the volition to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Proficiency in genetic epidemiology will be advantageous though not specifically required. You will be expected to have the necessary advanced skills in relevant statistical analysis software packages (SAS, R). A sound knowledge of informatics is particularly helpful. A degree of written and spoken fluency in English is essential.

Women are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment.
