Assistant Professors (Tenure-Track) in Computer Science Aalborg University Denmark


At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science a number of positions as tenure-track assistant professor are open for appointment from August 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Computer Science features a broad range of synergistic activities within research and education in the general area of computer science, including curiosity-driven research and targeted research in collaboration with industrial partners, as well as traditional university education, with a unique problem- and project-based focus, and continued education and knowledge dissemination.


Research areas will be within
Database, Programming and Web technologies with emphasis on data-intensive systems and platforms, spatio-temporal data management, data analytics and mining, application of machine learning, programming technologies, web science and engineering, personalization, and user modeling. 

Distributed, Embedded and Intelligent Systems with particular emphasis on foundational and logical theories, algorithms and tools for verification and validation, methodologies for real-time and embedded systems, networks and operating systems, probabilistic graphical models, and machine learning. 

Human-Centered Computing - with particular emphasis on the design, development, and use of interactive computer systems from a human-centered perspective, including software development, digitalization, human-computer interaction, interaction design, user experience, and innovation- 

Teaching will primarily be in the Computer Science Department’s educations, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements: 

Assistant professor:
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:
•A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
•A current curriculum vitae.
•Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
•Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 5 publications.
•Teaching portfolio. Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
•Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
•Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
•Personal data.

Tenure track:
Aalborg University, Department of Computer Science offers talented scientists attractive career perspectives via a Tenure Track. Highly qualified candidates are appointed for a period of six years with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured position. 

The aim of the Tenure Track Position is to attract talented young scientists. Tenure track positions give the possibility for promotion to a tenure position as associate professor. 
Every year the assistant professor has an interview with the research leader where goals and expectations will be determined individually according to the general criteria for evaluating candidates for associate professorships.

As part of the Tenure Track after two years, a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate takes place with the participation of the research leader and the head of department. The evaluation will be according to the criteria used for qualifying as an associate professor. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aalborg University, Department of Computer Science.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
