Rutgers University, IFH invites applications for a new faculty position in Biomedical Informatics, to build on existing strengths in Data Sciences and Biomedical and Health Sciences. We seek an outstanding Biomedical Data Scientist with a strong track record of research and publication in, and a compelling vision for, realizing the promise and potential of big data to dramatically improve individual and population health, and a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. We are interested in a broad range of expertise in Data Sciences including, but not limited to informatics, information integration, knowledge representation and ontologies, machine learning, causality, longitudinal data analyses, interventional studies, biomedical text and/or image analysis. The faculty member in Biomedical Informatics will have the ability to access the Institute for Health Survey / Data Core, which provides substantial administrative, survey, and clinical data resources, to encourage and support high impact research. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Machine Learning, Pharmacy, Public Health Sciences, Demography, Population Health, Health Policy and Economics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) prior to beginning employment at Rutgers University. Candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor must have strong research potential (as demonstrated by relevant publications). Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong track record of research publication, and funding, and those for Full Professor position should have a track record of research, publication, and funding that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in Biomedical Data Sciences. All candidates must pass a background check before beginning employment.

Candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor must have strong research potential (as demonstrated by relevant publications). Overview

The Institute for Health, RBHS, and the substantial resources of Rutgers University offer a rich collaborative environment for conducting research in health disparity and health equity. IFH is the home to NIA funded P30 RCMAR center grant focus on health disparity and health equity. RBHS is home to Rutgers Health Group, New Jersey’s largest multi-specialty medical group that includes the state’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a large behavioral health delivery system, and Robert Wood Johnson Partners, a commercial and Medicare ACO. RBHS partners with RWJBarnabas Health, the state’s largest healthcare delivery system. Research among these units expands considerably the opportunities for this position.
The Institute for Health has faculty and other researchers with considerable expertise in the health disparity and health equity research, social and clinical sciences, health research and policy, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, and related fields. The faculty have exceptional capacity to address the most pressing health and healthcare challenges. Considerable expertise exists in the analysis of large, integrated health-related clinical and administrative datasets, national surveys, Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance data with the application of social science theory and advanced statistical techniques.

Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research

Located on the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the Institute for Health was founded in 1985 and is a vibrant, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to scholarly collaboration and research that focuses on critical questions related to healthcare services and policy, population health, aging, and health and mental healthcare. Its core and associate members include 150+ outstanding faculty who have generated award-winning scholarship that has influenced fields including medical sociology, economics, health psychology, gerontology, health disparity and health equity, behavioral health, history of medicine, nursing, public health, psychiatry, global health, health services, medicine, social work, pharmacy, medical ethics, and health policy. Several research centers exist within the Institute including the Center for State Health Policy; Center for Health Services Research; and Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science. Faculty members have held research and training grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and other major funding organizations. The Institute for Health has served as home to six faculty elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Faculty are actively involved in mentoring future scholars at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Institute is housed in a 57,000 square foot state-of-the-art, custom-built academic and research facility located in the heart of New Brunswick, an ethnically diverse city with easy access to public transportation to New York City and Philadelphia
