Assistant Professor in Computer Science


The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA) at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a number of positions in computer science at the level of assistant professor, in the areas of Cybersecurity or Concurrency. The requirements for each area are described below. All applications will be considered for both areas.

An appointment as assistant professor lasts for three years, and contingent on successful completion of a lecturer training programme and a positive performance evaluation, a permanent position for associate professor is normally opened, for which the assistant professor can apply.

The proposed starting date is spring 2020 or later. Application deadline: 11 October 2019.

The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD in computer science and a strong track record of research at a high international level. Experience in combining theory and practice of computer science is a plus.

Positions in Cybersecurity
We are seeking candidates to complement our competences in cybersecurity.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
● Distributed systems security, including DevSecOps and site reliability
● Network protocols, including algorithmic or cryptographic approaches
to security, and security protocols
● Software security, including security-by-design and programming
● Statistical approaches to security, including data-driven approaches,
threat detection, and intrusion detection.

Positions in Concurrency
We are seeking candidates to join our section of concurrency and logic. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
● Concurrency theory
● Modern concurrent paradigms, including microservices, DevOps, IoT,
cloud computing, edge computing, and tactile Internet
● Programming languages, including design, theory, and implementation
● Logical methods for computer science.

Other Information
In addition to research, the applicant must be able to teach and advise in computer science at all levels (from BSc to PhD) as well as teach in a broad range of core computer science areas at the undergraduate level.

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Danish is not a prerequisite for application: more English than Danish is used when teaching in computer
science, and more than half of the faculty members in computer science are foreigners. The hired candidate will be offered Danish courses by the
university, and is expected to reach an acceptable level within a few years.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
