About the role...

The Assistant Professor (Senior Research Scientist) will be a member of SnT’s Security, Reasoning and Validation Research Group (SERVAL). The post will reinforce the strategic research roadmap of the group in engineering industrial machine learning systems, including the strategic partnerships with BGL BNP Paribas, STATEC and Creos, as well as projects supported by European Commission Horizon Europe, and the FNR. The majority of the projects include international scientific collaborations with renowned academic institutions and industrial stakeholders in the field.

The successful candidate is expected to assume a leading role in defining, acquiring, managing, and scientifically contributing to projects of relevance to the research group. The focus is on the verification/validation as well as on the robustness and security of real-world industrial machine-learning systems, with an emphasis on sectors relevant to Luxembourg, e.g., finance and energy.

The candidate will advise and support PhD candidates in their thesis research and contribute to the teaching activities of the group. The candidate will also design and deliver master-level classes in computer science, software engineering and/or artificial intelligence, e.g., on the Cyberus Erasmus Mundus joint Master in Cybersecurity and the Master in Cybersecurity and Cyber Defence. The candidate will undertake tutoring and internship supervision of master students.

Your profile...
  • PhD in Software Engineering
  • At least 5 years of post-PhD research experience in a relevant research area
  • Documented research expertise in: software engineering, software testing, software verification, machine learning security
  • Proven track record in research project acquisition and project management in a leading role
  • Excellent publication record in top-tier conferences/journals in the areas of software engineering and artificial intelligence, with a focus on testing, verification and security
  • Experience in research collaboration with research units in both public and private sectors
  • Experience working with/in industry on research and innovation projects
  • Ability to assume a leading role in technology transfer activities (e.g. licensing or spin-off creation)
  • Experience in supervising and developing PhD students
  • Experience in designing and teaching university-level courses
  • Commitment, team working and critical mind

Language requirements:

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual and multicultural context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and either French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other language and provides access to language courses to this end.
