About UNSW Founders

UNSW Founders is a full-stack entrepreneurship support program that helps students, staff, and alumni to turn skills and ideas into startups and impact. We do this by running workshops and events, hosting competitions and accelerators, and connecting ambitious people with world class coaches and mentors who have ‘been there done that’.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

At UNSW Founders you’ll be tasked with leveraging technology to empower our team to support the next generation of entrepreneurs. This will include conducting data analytics, building dashboarding and automating business processes, as well as implementing projects that not only add significant value to us and our startups but also enhance your portfolio/resume, including:

  1. Founders Wrapped. Help create ‘Spotify Wrapped’ for Founders – an annual summary of all the activity and hard work our startups put in each year.
  2. Founders GPT. Help deploy cutting-edge chat bots to assist our programs and startups.
  3. Crunchbase integration (Project Crunchie). Help integrate and leverage Crunchbase's extensive startup database with our own internal portfolio management systems.
  4. Tools for the team. Help develop custom software tools to increase the productivity of our team.
  5. Tools for the startups. Help develop a suite of digital tools to help our startups thrive and scale.

Desired Qualifications

Education: Computer Science undergraduate (current UNSW student).

Experience: No specific work experience required.

Desired (not required) skills: Programmer, analyser, writer (learnable on the job).

  • Programming: familiarity with Javascript, Python and working with APIs.
  • Databasing: maintaining and querying databases such as MongoDB and Airtable.
  • Analytics: basic statistics, dashboarding and/or fulfilling data requests.
  • Automation: business process automation via Zapier and/or scripting.
  • Documentation: converting processes into simple/readable documentation.

Personal Attributes

The important personal attributes for this role include (in order of importance):

  1. Desire the learn: We champion the 'start and then learn' over the 'learn then start' approach. So even if you haven't mastered all the skills listed, that's okay. What truly matters to us is your eagerness to learn and your aptitude for picking up new skills swiftly.
  2. Desire to build: We value individuals who find satisfaction in building solutions for our internal team and the startups we nurture. While every job has its routine tasks, we're always on the lookout for inventive minds ready to tackle problems in creative ways.
  3. Bias for action. We value speed of execution over perfection. While attention to detail is important, a bias for action and making progress is more important (better to be roughly right than precisely wrong).
  4. Fascination with Technology: We hold a special place for those who are fascinated by the cutting edge of technology and are perpetually seeking ways to harness its power. We believe deeply in the transformative impact of technology and startups on society, and we hope this resonates with you too!

Work Environment

Join our bustling work environment, surrounded by the UNSW Founders team, entrepreneurs in our co-working space and the broader startup community who attend our events on a regular basis. We welcome you to work on campus with us one day per week (ideally Thursdays).
