HIRING ORGANISATION:

We are building the university of the future. We are doing this through empowering and creating opportunity for all our students and staff so as they may learn, discover and enrich society locally, nationally and internationally. Our success is demonstrated by many accolades, including a TEF Gold Award, The Guardian University of the Year for 2019, The Times and The Sunday Times Modern University of the Year in 2018 and the THE University of the Year for 2017, not to mention a top-20 position in The Guardian League Table for the past two years.

The School of Science and Technology is a dynamic, diverse school with an outstanding reputation in teaching and a fast growing reputation in research and innovation. The School is composed of six departments that span the biological, computer, forensic, mathematical, physical and sports sciences, and engineering. It is home to around 4,500 students, including around 500 MSc and 150 PhD students, and around 350 staff in substantive posts.

More than 9 out of every 10 of our final year students recommend studying for a degree at NTU. The School's outstanding reputation in teaching is also reflected in its standing in the National Student Survey. Eight of the School's programmes achieved 100% satisfaction in the most recent NSS, and five of the subject areas in the School are in the top 10 of their field. An extensive ongoing building programme at the Clifton campus means the School is now home to multiple state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories and other facilities.

The School has long been a critical part of NTU's research and innovation powerbase. The excellence of its research is reflected in the Queen's Anniversary Prize awarded to NTU in 2015. It is also the home of the multimillion pound endowed John van Geest Cancer Research Centre, the newly established £23M Medical Technologies Innovation Facility, and the soon-to-be-established Institute for Digital Innovation, which will be based in the new £24M Engineering Building that is soon to be opened at the Clifton Campus.

The Deputy Dean role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the leadership of the School of Science and Technology as it delivers on its bold vision for the future. You will have primary responsibility for leading the formation and delivery of the School's learning and teaching strategy and outstanding student experience. As a member of the School senior management team, you will also contribute more widely to the leadership of the School and University.

You may also continue to undertake a substantive programme of research, practice or pedagogical activity within a field relevant to the School. The level of appointment may be up to full professorial level dependent upon the standing of the research, scholarship or practice.

So talk to us, tell us of a bold future you'd like to build and we will give you the support to make it happen.

ALL APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO HAVE AN INFORMAL DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS ROLE IN THE FIRST INSTANCE WITH PROFESSOR MARY O'NEILL AT MARY.ONEILL@NTU.AC.UK.
To make an application, please forward to CSTPossibilities@ntu.ac.uk a CV alongside a covering letter which is of no more than 2 sides of A4 outlining how you meet the criteria for this position. It is anticipated that the interviews will be held in September or October – date to be confirmed
