Job description

  • You contribute to teaching and research in the field of Informatics, Distributed Systems and Artificial Intelligence.

  • You will be lecturing at a Bachelor’s and Master’s level in the field of Informatics, Distributed Systems and Artificial Intelligence, including the corresponding laboratory sessions. Your teaching duties are limited to a maximum of 50% of your total assignment.

  • You will develop your own research projects, within the scope of the research group, and you will compete to obtain external research grants.

  • You will support ongoing projects within the IDLab research group and supervise students’ project work, Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.

  • You support PhD students.


Profile and requirements

  • You hold (or acquire during the application period) a doctorate degree (PhD) in Civil Engineering (Electronics-ICT or Computer Science), Applied Engineering (Electronics-ICT), Computer Science or similar.

  • The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university. You have the ability to teach well and with a large degree of independence on an academic level.

  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy. You are familiar with national and international research funding and can work independently in the field of research. You are willing to stay abroad to carry out research.

  • You can present excellent study and research results.

  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative. You are a strong team player. You work in a team as a motivating and inspiring member. You have vision and can communicate well, both in speaking and in writing, in Dutch and English.

  • You can meet the statutory language requirements for both the knowledge of the teaching language and the administrative language, Dutch. The University of Antwerp provides the necessary support.

  • You have excellent knowledge of English, in both oral and written communication.

  • You are willing to learn Dutch within the first year.

  • Expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Distributed Embedded Systems and Internet-of-Things techniques and technologies is a plus.


We offer

  • an appointment as a doctoral assistant for a period of three years, with a possibility of renewal for a further three-year period after positive evaluation;

  • the date of appointment will be as soon as possible;

  • a full-time gross monthly salary ranging from € 4.134,93 to € 6.446,00;

  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment in a young and innovative faculty.

  • Your application contains a research plan in English (up to a maximum of 5 pages), in which you describe for a period of three years how you intend to set up and develop your research within the strategic plan of IDLab, including the valorisation of your research and a plan of action for attracting research funding.
