The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track educational leadership stream position in Data Science at the rank of Instructor. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and the ability to teach a wide range of courses in data science and statistics. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a closely related field and will become a member of the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics ( The appointment is expected to commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

Candidates will demonstrate evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful, collegial, and conducive learning and working environment. The successful candidate will teach courses in mathematics, data science, and statistics both within the department’s undergraduate programs as well as the department’s successful Master of Data Science program.  The candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to establish a strong educational leadership program. Our department strongly believes in quality teaching and engaging student experiences. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to further development of the curriculum in mathematics and statistics and with have the opportunity to fulfill service obligations to the University and community.


The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, at UBC’s Okanagan campus, is a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary department of more than 30 faculty members with research clusters in data science, machine learning, optimization, and medical physics, as well as active engagement in the scholarship of teaching.


The Department is housed in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences. The Faculty is undergoing a transition that will result in the formation of an autonomous Faculty of Science and an autonomous Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in 2020.
