Junior Professorship for Intelligent Data Analytics
University Rostock

The Institute for Visual and Analytic Computing of the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Rostock invites applications for the position

Junior Professorship for Intelligent Data Analytics

(salary level W1 with a tenure track for a W2 professorship)

This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. The position is filled on a temporary basis for a period of three years. An extension for further three years is planned if the evaluation is positive. After the expiry of the fixed-term contract, awarding tenure (W2 professorship) is intended.

The research area of the professorship is the investigation of methods for data-based analysis of complex systems. The development of such methods is a central research focus of the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and especially of the Institute for Visual and Analytic Computing. Interdisciplinary projects in Rostock in this domain address issues ranging from cell biology, medical diagnostics and marine ecology to enterprise modeling and underwater technology.

To address the potential in this field, we are looking for a young scientist with an excellent track record in one or more of the following areas of computer science:

  • Data-driven artificial intelligence and (deep) machine learning,
  • Data exploration and data mining in very large data sets,
  • Statistical data analysis, statistical learning, and Bayesian methods,
    • Data- and knowledge-based modeling of dynamic systems.

We are also interested in young scientists who develop new innovative approaches beyond established data analysis methods in the context of Intelligent Data Analytics, such as

  • Mechanisms of statistical relational learning,
  • Combination of probabilistic and neural methods for inference in dynamic systems,
  • Methods for the synthesis of training data,
  • Combination of data- and knowledge-based construction of inference models,
  • Explainability and traceability of forecasts,
    • Distributed data analysis in compliance with data privacy (Federated Learning).

In addition to the above thematic orientation, experience in acquiring and implementing third-party funded projects as well as experience in academic teaching are desirable. We expect the future job holder to participate in lecturing the academic courses offered by the Institute for Visual and Analytic Computing as well as in research activities in one of the four departments of the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Rostock University.
