About us The Department of Informatics is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Cryptography. Lattice-based cryptography is not an area of interest for this position. We consider cryptographic challenges from a broad perspective. Members of the department regularly publish in and sit on the program committees of top-tier and well-known venues in cryptography and information security. It is the research transformative aspect that provides the opportunity to serve society while supporting King’s as an outstanding institution in science and technology. The successful applicant for this post will be involved in delivering teaching in a core area of computer science. The successful candidate will be appointed to the Cybersecurity (CSY) group, where our work on cryptography sits, and will have the opportunity to contribute to cross-cutting hubs (see https://www.kcl.ac.uk/informatics/research). Research collaboration across research groups, with departmental hubs and with other Departments in the Faculty and across the College is strongly encouraged. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. About the role The successful candidate will be expected to: Undertake a self-directed programme of research and scholarship at a level commensurate with current international standard. Enhance the research profile of the Department through academic outputs, including publications and scientific meetings, scholarship, academic and industrial collaboration, impact and other externally facing activities. Supervise and train postgraduate students and postdoctoral research staff to ensure their effective development. Contribute to academic management and support the administration and development of the department to further its education, research activities, and ambitions. Deliver an excellent student experience through innovative teaching and assessment methods for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, in core computer science and a specialism in information security and cryptography. Be responsible for the wellbeing and pastoral care of students, including acting as Personal Tutor. Engage with and contribute to department, faculty, and institutional level initiatives in accordance with strategy at all levels of the organisation. Actively promote and participate in equality, diversity, and collegiality. About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD in cryptography or a closely related field. Ability to define and lead a research area and a growing research record in cryptography as evidenced by publications in top cryptographic and security venues such as IACR flagship conferences or ACM CCS, IEEE S&P, USENIX Security; research experience and good reputation in relevant research field; potential to acquire research project funding; ability to supervise research students. Ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in core areas of computer science. Ability to make a significant contribution to administrative work. Desirable criteria Teaching and examining experience. Experience in attracting external research funds. Administrative experience.
