Engineering Product Development (EPD) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position available in Fall 2025.
EPD is a multi-disciplinary pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) that aims to solve technological problems of tomorrow using a human-centered design approach, bringing together innovative research and education in the areas of Robotics and Electronics, Materials Science and Engineering, Design Science and Engineering, Energy and Sustainability, Biomedical and Healthcare, Additive Manufacturing, Optics and Photonics. In addition to these broad areas, we are expanding into strategic domains, and particularly welcome applicants whose research expertise falls under one or more of the following:

  • Hardware-based Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Human-Centered Engineering Design and Emerging Technologies for Innovation
  • Sustainable Design and its interplay with AI
  • Quantum Technologies, e.g. Sensing, Computing, Engineering

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape SUTD’s mission of nurturing technically-grounded leaders and innovators who can serve societal needs through a design-centric, interdisciplinary education and research approach.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Develop a strong, externally funded research program in one or more of the above focus areas.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses with a strong commitment to educational innovation and interdisciplinary integration.
  • Engage in collaborative research across pillars, institutions, and industry partners globally.
  • Contribute to the design and innovation culture of SUTD, including mentoring students and supporting entrepreneurial initiatives.

The candidate must have:

  • A PhD in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Computer Science, Design, or a related field with a track record of impactful research.
  • A demonstrated commitment to research excellence through high-impact publications.
  • A proven ability to work across different fields of study, and/or a willingness to engage in transdisciplinary research.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for mentoring students.

Candidates meeting following criteria will be favorably evaluated:

  • A clearly articulated research vision with alignment to SUTD initiatives.
  • Teaching experience or demonstrated interest in pedagogical innovation.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students.
  • Demonstrated success in recent acquisition of competitive research funds.
  • A track record or aspiration of translating research into impact through commercialization, partnerships, or public engagement.
