Post-Doc position (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 100%) – Multi-Agent Reinforcement Leaning

Faculty of Science, Department of Computer Science

Bewerbungsfrist : 17.05.2021

At the University of Tübingen, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Department of Computer Science, is a

Post-Doc position (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 100%) – Multi-Agent Reinforcement Leaning

available to be filled as soon as possible. The position is limited to two years.

Project description and duties: Multi-armed bandit is a variety of sequential decision-making problems under uncertainty and a subclass of reinforcement learbing, envisaged by a gambler playing on a slot machine. While the seminal formulation comprises only one player that faces the exploration-exploitation dilemma, the challenge becomes significantly aggravated in the multi-agent setting, where the decision-makers mutually affect each other while sharing limited resources. Such scenario is located at the intersection of two pillars of artificial intelligence, namely, decision-making under uncertainty and multi-agent systems. The goal of this project is to develop theoretically- rigorous decision-making strategies that guarantee the efficiency and stability of such a system under different conditions, e.g., when the agents can cooperate in decision-making or when the ambient is non-stationary.

Profile description: Applicants must possess a recent excellent Ph.D. degree in computer science (machine learning and artificial intelligence), operations research, mathematics (statistics, probability theory), electrical engineering (wireless communications), or another tightly related field. A strong mathematical background and the interest/motivation to work on theoretical problems are necessary. Good programming skills (at least Python) and English proficiency are also required. Knowledge of German is a positive point.

How to apply: Please send your application as a single pdf file to Prof. Maghsudi (setareh.maghsudispam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de). The application should include (i) full CV including the contact information of at least two references, (ii) transcript records for both graduate and undergraduate levels, (iii) a one-page research proposal, (iv) up to three representative publications, (v) Ph.D. thesis.

The applications should be sent before 17.05.2021. The review is performed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Only complete applications can be considered.

The university seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women academics to apply for these positions. Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preference.

The employment will be carried out by the central administration of the University of Tübingen.
