About you

The AGORA Center for Market Design at UNSW is inviting applications for two or more Post-Doctoral Researcher positions.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake collaborative and self-directed research on developing novel solution concepts in game theory, including models of bounded rationality, and testing them. One specific goal is to characterize the resulting solution sets using advanced mathematical techniques from (semi) algebraic geometry.  Another specific goal is to test the newly-developed models using controlled laboratory experiments. A broader goal is to incorporate more realistic models of behaviour in strategic situations and into the design of robust institutions.

The AGORA Center plans to fill at least one Postdoc position in theory and at least one Postdoc position in experimental economics. Candidates should have a strong background in either theoretical or experimental research with a focus on mechanism design, auctions, networks, or political institutions. The start date and terms of the positions are negotiable. The positions are for three years.

To be successful in these roles, you should have;

  • PhD in Economics, with strong background in game theory
  • Strong mathematical background, specifically, methods from (semi) algebraic geometry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven, or demonstrated excellent potential for, an outstanding publication record.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality project outcomes in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of equal opportunity principles
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the positions are filled. Applications should be submitted electronically.

Please submit;

  • a recent CV;
  • two completed research papers;
  • a statement of interest; and
  • the names and email addresses of two referees.
