Postdoctoral Position in Electrochemical Engineering (Argonne National Laboratory)

Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division Argonne National Laboratory \| Lemont, Illinois, USA Overview The Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for Postdoctoral Appointees to join a multidisciplinary team developing molten salt-based chemical and electrochemical processes for applications in electrometallurgy, advanced nuclear systems, and chemical production. Working under the guidance of a supervisor, the appointee will advance fundamental understanding of reaction mechanisms in molten salts and apply this knowledge to process development, monitoring, and scale-up. Key Responsibilities Conduct experiments with multimodal sensors to study molten salt chemistry and electrochemistry. Develop and implement novel process monitoring and control technologies for molten salt and liquid metal systems. Design and test advanced molten salt flow systems to support accelerated materials processing. Investigate reaction pathways, kinetics, and morphology control for molten salt systems. Prepare reports, publications, and presentations; contribute to proposals for new research directions. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (earned within the past five years). Demonstrated experimental skills in chemical or material processing and data analysis. Knowledge of electrochemistry or electrochemical engineering principles. Experience working safely with hazardous materials and engineering controls (e.g., gloveboxes) preferred. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Proficiency with computer-based experiment control and data interpretation. U.S. citizenship required (per federal regulations).
