The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Applied Mathematics: Statistics. Position You will work actively on the preparation of a PhD thesis in statistics and machine learning. The envisioned topic focuses on practical challenges of causal discovery, including scalability, mixed-type data, and robustness. You will publish scientific articles related to the research project. You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for applied mathematics. Profile You hold a Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or equivalent. You can demonstrate excellent study results. Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. Your research qualities are in line with faculty and university research policies. You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation. You have a solid background in programming in R and/or Python. Proficiency in Dutch is a plus but not required. What We Offer A doctoral scholarship for a period of one year, renewable annually following a positive evaluation, up to a total of four years. The planned start date is either September or October 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders. You will receive ecocheques, internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting. Most of your work will be at campus Middelheim, in the dynamic and stimulating working environment of the statistics group at the Department of Mathematics. The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Applied Mathematics: Statistics.

Position
