We are building the university of the future. We are doing this through empowering and creating opportunity for all our students and staff so as they may learn, discover and enrich society locally, nationally and internationally. Our success is demonstrated by many accolades, including a TEF Gold Award, The Guardian University of the Year for 2019, The Times and The Sunday Times Modern University of the Year in 2018 and the THE University of the Year for 2017, not to mention a top-20 position in The Guardian League Table for the past two years.

The School of Science and Technology at NTU is a dynamic, diverse school with an outstanding reputation in teaching and a fast growing reputation in research and innovation. It is composed of six departments that span the biological, mathematical, computer, physical and sports sciences, and engineering. The School is home to about 4,500 students, including around 500 MSc and 150 PhD students, and around 350 staff in substantive posts.

The Department of Computing and Technology is popular with both students and the industry it serves. It is home to a number of vibrant degree apprenticeships, nearly 9 out of every 10 of its students secure graduate-level jobs within six months of graduating, and 100% of surveyed computer science students recommend studying for a degree at NTU. The excellence of its research is reflected in the Queen's Anniversary Prize awarded to NTU in 2015, which is largely based on pioneering X-ray imaging work carried out in the Department.

Significant recent capital investment in the School of Science and Technology means it is now home to multiple state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories and other facilities that the Department of Computing & Technology benefit from. This includes the newly established £23M Medical Technologies Innovation Facility, and the soon-to-be-established Institute for Digital Innovation, which will be based in the new £24M Engineering Building that will open shortly.

The Head of Department role is an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver a bold vision for the future of the Department of Computing & Technology at a time when digital technologies are underpinning rapid societal change. As a member of the School senior management team, you will also contribute more widely to the leadership of the School and University.

As a holder of a chair in the School, you will also continue to undertake a programme of research that is consistent with professorial requirements and within a field relevant to the department, which includes research groups concerned with computational intelligence, computational neuroscience and cognitive robotics, interactive systems, smart infrastructures, Internet of Things and cyber-security.

So talk to us, tell us of a bold future you'd like to build and we will give you the support to make it happen.
