As part of continued growth of activity in the area of computer systems engineering, the School of Engineering at Warwick is seeking to appoint a Professor in Connected Systems to lead new research of international excellence in an area of electronic/computer engineering that complements the strategic aims of the School. The successful candidate will take a leading role in the Connected Systems Research Group that comprises academics with interests in cyber-physical systems, optical networks, reconfigurable computing and communication systems theory. They will promote and lead the continued development of teaching modern electronic/computer engineering within the range of taught programmes offered by the School at undergraduate and specialised masters levels, including the flagship Computer Systems Engineering degree offered jointly with the Department of Computer Science.

The post holder will have an appropriate honours degree or equivalent and should hold a PhD level qualification or equivalent in an associated field. Substantial experience of research, teaching and administration in a major university (or equivalent) is essential, as is an outstanding record of achievement and leadership in research of international leading standing. Evidence of potential to promote, develop and lead the broad discipline of computer engineering within the context of a large integrated School of Engineering would be an advantage.

We welcome applications from candidates whose research area lies at the intersection of computation and communication with applications in areas such as cyber-physical systems, automotive, industrial Internet of Things. A research profile demonstrating clear tangible impact and practical outcomes is strongly preferred.

All applicants must include both a Curriculum Vitae and a two-page outline of your strategic vision over five years for the development of innovative research in the area of Connected Systems. This bespoke vision will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. This is a mandatory component of our selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.

The University aims to promote work life balance for all employees and the School of Engineering will consider a range of possible flexible working arrangements in order to recruit the best candidate.

For an informal and confidential discussion about this opportunity, please contact Professor Julian Gardner, Discipline Stream Leader for Electrical and Electronic Engineering within the School. (
