* Novel architectures and design automation for CPS that take into account several factors such as available computational resources, multiple sensory inputs/outputs, communication mechanisms, development languages and maintenance for end-users.
* Technology research in sensor integration and the design methodology needed to develop suitable energy efficient and high performance systems to enable advanced capability in robotics applications consummate with recently emerging technologies such as deep learning based computer vison.

Both Robotics and Embedded Systems research at Essex have an outstanding reputation, signified for example by the recent award of the GBP 42M EPSRC National Centre in Nuclear Robotics to CSEE. The role is specifically suited but not limited to candidates that can complement the existing major research areas in Embedded Systems and Robotics in the School, and may also have some relevance to the Intelligent Environments in CSEE.
