Duties and responsibilities:

• Support and build the statistical consultation unit that currently falls under the Department of Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science.
• Provide a statistical consultation service to academic staff and postgraduate students undertaking quantitative research at the UFS.
• Make a contribution throughout the research process, from the planning of a research project, through to the analysis of research data, up to the publication of the findings.
• Lecturing may be required, depending on workload as statistical consultant and lecturing needs within the department, although this will not be the main role.

Inherent requirements:


Statistical Consultant (Junior Lecturer)
• Honours degree in Statistics or related field.
• Thorough programming experience with at least one major statistical software package (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, etc.).
• A minimum of three (3) years' practical experience in data analysis and applied statistics.

Statistical Consultant (Lecturer)
• Masters in Statistics or related field.
• Thorough programming experience with at least one major statistical software package (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, etc.).
• A minimum of three (3) years' practical experience in data analysis and applied statistics.
• Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent.
• Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
• A good academic record.

Statistical Consultant (Senior Lecturer)
• PhD in Statistics or related field.
• Thorough programming experience with at least one major statistical software package (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, etc.).
• A minimum of three (3) years' practical experience in data analysis and applied statistics.
• Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating or potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
• Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters students.
• Proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
• Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

Statistical Consultant (Associate Professor)
• PhD in Statistics or related field.
• Thorough programming experience with at least one major statistical software package (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, etc.).
• A minimum of three (3) years' practical experience in data analysis and applied statistics.
• Experience as external examiner for masters and doctoral students.
• Proven experience in the presentation of research papers.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters students.
• A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
• Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

Statistical Consultant (Professor)
• PhD in Statistics or related field.
• Thorough programming experience with at least one major statistical software package (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, etc.).
• A minimum of three (3) years' practical experience in data analysis and applied statistics.
• Experience as external examiner for masters and doctoral students.
• Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a particular area of academic scholarship (e.g. regularly serves as a reviewer for international/lSI/IBSS journals).
• An NRF rating of C1 or C2 or equivalent status.
• A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters and preferably graduated doctoral students.
• Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences.
• Serve as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

Recommendations:

• Lecturing experience in Statistics or related field will count in your favour, especially if supported by positive feedback from students and moderators.
• Willing to enrol for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
