Position Overview

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks candidates with research expertise in financial mathematics.
The appointee will:

  • Lead and develop the Insurance and Financial Mathematics study track in the Master’s program (MAST)
  • Establish and maintain an independent research line and research group
  • Participate in teaching and supervising master’s theses in stochastic analysis and financial mathematics
  • Take part in departmental administration and collaborate with industry

Appointments are at:

  • Professor – top-level research leader with international recognition
  • Associate Professor – experienced researcher with significant achievements
  • Assistant Professor – promising researcher with potential to become a future research leader

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctorate degree in mathematics or financial mathematics (must be completed by application deadline)
  • Post-doctoral experience with research excellence
  • Teaching experience at university level
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

Desirable/Advantageous:

  • Proficiency in Finnish or Swedish
  • Evidence of international collaboration
  • Strong co-operation and interaction skills

Specific expectations per career stage:

  • Assistant/Associate Professors: potential/established research leadership, independent, externally funded research
  • Professors: top-level scholarship, established research leadership, teaching and supervision, international impact

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in financial mathematics and stochastic analysis (15–20 ECTS/year for Assistant/Associate Professors, ~20 ECTS for Professors)
  • Supervise Master’s theses in Insurance and Financial Mathematics
  • Lead and develop research projects, apply for external funding
  • Participate in departmental administration and university service
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners

Salary and Benefits

  • Professor: €84,000 – €98,000/year (gross)
  • Associate Professor: €76,000 – €82,000/year (gross)
  • Assistant Professor: €68,000 – €74,000/year (gross)
