Main Purpose of the Post

 


The post holder will contribute to scientific and engineering research, commercialisation and product development efforts, following the university policies, goals, and objectives; comprehensively investigate and develop technical solutions to meet the research objectives and assist in technical report writing.

 

Main Duties

 

Main duites will include for example:

1. Interact positively and professionally with other collaborators and partners within the College and elsewhere in the University and beyond as appropriate such as in industry/commerce, public organisations

2. Pro-actively contribute to and conduct research, including gather, prepare and analyse data, generate original ideas and present results.

3. Prepare reports, draft patents and papers describing the results of the research, both confidential and for publication.

Person Specification


Essential criteria:


A Degree in an appropriate engineering or science discipline. Or be able to demonstrate an equivalent plus appropriate experience within the field.
Evidence of the ability to actively engage in and contribute to writing and publishing research papers, particularly for refereed journals.
A demonstrable ability to conduct research in line with the objectives of the project
Evidence of planning skills to contribute to the research project
Skills in the use of 3D CAD and FEA software.
Experience in developing manufacturing drawings and writing engineering reports or papers for commercialisation, journal submission or seminars
A commitment to continuous professional development


Desirable Criteria


Knowledge of engineering design principles particularly in materials applications.
Good analytical skills
Practical skills of design and finite element software and mechanical testing techniques.
Experience in manufacturing principles.
Knowledge of prototype development and testing.
Knowledge design for C.E. standards.
Background
Funded by AgorIP, the post holder will be employed by the Mechanical Engineering Portfolio, College of Engineering in Swansea University but will work on a collaborative project with a third party company.
