About You

The Research Assistant will undertake research activities in line with the University’s research strategy and is expected to operate with an increasing level of autonomy as skills and experience grow.

You will be part of a collaborative, multi-institutional project involving RMIT, Rigetti Computing, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of Virginia, and University of Connecticut, investigating the atomic origins of imperfections in Josephson junctions and their impact on quantum computing.

You will perform computational and theoretical analysis using a range of techniques and collaborate closely with team members across institutions.


Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • PhD qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. computational/theoretical physics, chemistry, applied mathematics).

  • Demonstrated evidence of computational modelling experience, including code development and data analysis.

  • Ideally, experience with one or more of the following:

    • Molecular dynamics packages (e.g. LAMMPS).

    • Empirical force field techniques (e.g. ReaxFF, MACE).

    • Phase-field modelling techniques.

  • Evidence of research output (publications, conference contributions, technical reports).

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team-based environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities.

  • High level of communication skills.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
