Research Fellow in Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering Northumbria University School of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering United Kingdom

Job Title:Research Fellow in  Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering
Department:  Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering

Description

The Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering at Northumbria University has strength in materials for sustainable energy as evidenced by recent awards from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to create the North East Centre for Energy Materials (NECEM) and a Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Energy Northeast Universities (ReNU). Part of this strength is based on expertise in thin film photovoltaic devices and we are now seeking an excellent post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on the transfer of this expertise to the manufacturing domain.

Role

The role is to support a further recently awarded EPSRC grant in Adventurous Manufacturing which seeks to demonstrate the potential for scaling-up a transformative nanoparticle ink using automated liquid deposition techniques and photonic curing. The role is laboratory-based and requires outstanding problem solving skills typically attained in an experimental physics/chemistry/engineering or equivalent, relevant doctoral project. In addition to performing high quality laboratory experiments, the successful candidate will have experience of disseminating research outcomes at international conferences and in prestigious academic journals. The successful candidate will join the Northumbria University Photovoltaics research group and will be expected to support all aspects of the group's activities.

In addition to a strong track record of academic achievement demonstrated by excellent publications, applicants should have experience of either thin film solar cell fabrication and characterisation or automated deposition of functional layers for example via inkjet printing. The role will also involve working with industrial partners and therefore applicants should have excellent communication skills.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Dr Neil Beattie at neil.beattie@northumbria.ac.uk.
