The Department of Electromechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is looking for a full-time (100%) researcher in the field of AI-powered camera systems. Position You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis titled: “Design and calibration of AI-powered camera systems for armoured vehicles.” The research focuses on probabilistic 3D camera calibration and AI-based threat detection methods, combining simulation, synthetic data generation, and multi-sensor fusion across visible and infrared cameras. You will collaborate with industry and defence partners to experimentally validate the developed methods. You will help coordinate research project proposals in the field of vision systems and image processing for defence applications and contribute to acquiring external funding. You will support ongoing imaging projects with industrial partners and co-supervise Master’s students. Only candidates with the nationality of an EU or NATO member state are eligible to apply. You have knowledge of machine learning for computer vision. Hands-on experience with image acquisition systems and camera technologies (e.g., visible, infrared, RGB-D) is highly valued. You can demonstrate excellent academic results. You have strong communication skills and are fluent in spoken and written English. You are able to work both independently and collaboratively, and you act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and teamwork. Your research profile aligns with the faculty and university research policies.
