We provide education at Bachelor's and Master's level anchored in research and the development of society. The department is located at the knowledge-intensive Lindholmen, and has a well-developed collaboration with both business and public sector as well as the civil society. Cognition and communication at the department The department conducts a broad research with an interest in human interaction and communication with relation to society's digitalization and social and cognitive conditions, at the individual, group and organizational level. Research in Division of Cognition and Communication in the field of communication is primarily focused on organizational, intercultural and digital communication. The research in cognitive science links AI with machine learning and modeling of human cognition, emotion theory and multimodal interaction, with possible applications e.g. in decision support and autonomous systems. All teaching at the department's program Master in Communication and the bachelor program in Cognitive Science reflects the strong research environment. In both research and education, the department has a long tradition of working closely with industry and the public sector. The department hosts ICED Lab and is active in various collaborative projects on, among other things, Artificial Intelligence. Subject areaCommunication Subject area descriptionThe topic of communication is focused on understanding various forms of communication in various contexts. Communication is an interdisciplinary area at the intersection of social sciences, humanities and technology. Organizational communication, intercultural communication as well as consequences in terms of challenges and opportunities that result from the accelerating spread of information and communication technology in various contexts are important areas in our research and education. EligibilityThe eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in chapter 4, sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment procedure. Qualifying to be employed is the one who has demonstrated educational skill, has obtained a doctorate in Communication (or in a closely related field) or has equivalent scientific competence or any other skill that is important in the view of the content of the employment and the duties that are to be included. Experience of teaching communication as well as independent research in communication are requirements for the position. AssessmentIn the evaluation of applicants, equal attention will be paid to competence in research and teaching. The assessment of scientific aptitude involves documented ability to in an independent manner initiate and conduct research, documented ability to collaborate in the organizational development and research and contribute to a research environment. Scientific excellence should be illustrated through research activities and publishing within relevant fields. The assessment of teaching aptitude is focused on pedagogical experience considered to be of relevance to the position. The teaching aptitude should hence primarily relate to teaching in communication. Particularly meritorious is documented experience of successful teaching / documented competence to teach, organizational communication as well as research methods in communication. Ability to supervise master thesis projects would also be consider meritorious for the position. Applicants should be fluent in oral and written English. Research seminars and discussions are usually also conducted in English. We will put an emphasis on references in the assessment. The university will through this recruitment make a holistic assessment of aptitude and skills and select the applicant which is deemed to have the best pre-requisites to conduct and develop current tasks of the position, interact and cooperate externally and internally, as well as contributing to a positive development of the division.
