Virtual reality (VR) 3D artist

 

Grade 8: £41526-£45361 per annum

 

Applications are invited for a Virtual reality (VR) 3D artist to work on a project at the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) research team

 

The post is full time and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.

 

The post is for a fixed term (funded to 2 years).

 

You will be responsible for the design and 3D modelling of 3D environments depicting social situations. You will work closely with the VR programmer, who will be responsible of the source code of the VR applications. Your main tasks will be to design, model, rig, and animate virtual humans and other animated assets. That will require the recording of 3D animations with a motion capture system, cleaning up the animations and synchronise the audio files. You will work together with the research team during the iterative design process of the VR scenarios and provide your expertise in 3D modelling. You will also contribute to the testing and bug tracking of the VR applications. You will ensure that the 3D assets are optimised to deliver smooth experiences in VR and minimising adverse effects, such as motion sickness. This will require a strong knowledge of optimisation techniques. You will set up and maintain a software repository for 3D assets and large files, ideally with versioning control. You will also contribute to the creation of multimedia content for the public dissemination of our research. You will be encouraged to collaborate in other on-going research projects and participate with new ideas for future projects.

 

You will be a versatile 3D artist with experience in a wide range of skills, including 3D character modelling and animation, and 3D environment modelling, with 3+ years of experience, ideally in VR applications. You will be a self-motivated person and be aiming to deliver top-grade experiences that will be part of the next generation of mental health therapies in VR. You will have a strong attention to detail and be able to follow the project schedule. You will have a strong knowledge of the design principles for VR applications, and a solid understanding of 3D assets optimisation for different platforms (Windows, Android). You will have demonstrable experience in 3D character modelling, rigging, and animating virtual human characters, and have experience in creating, texturing, and lighting 3D environments. You will also have experience in project management tools (Jira) and a clear understanding of the software development cycle.
